  • 1-27 May: Exhibition "Print of its origin from the dawn of Reinassance"

    The Foundation Old Mint of Lucca and the Diocesan Library of Lucca organize the exhibition “Print from its origins to the dawn of Renaissance. Incunabulums and cinquecentine from Diocesan Library of Lucca and Gerardo Mercatore’s Globes”, curated by Rodolfo Rossi anche Leo Giancarlo Lazzari. It’s possible to admire 80 precious volumes full of etchings and miniatures from the 15th-16th centuries, and the amazing globes of Gerardo Mercatore from 1531. At Museo della Zecca.

  • 6 - 7 May: Preview great wines of Tuscany coast

    The wines of the Grand Cru of the Tuscan Coast are produced in five provinces within Tuscany: Massa, Lucca, Pisa, Livorno, and Grosseto.  What sets these provinces apart from others in Tuscany is the influence of the Tyrrhenian Sea on the region’s climate. The “Grand Cru della Costa Toscana” gives a stamp of approval to those producers in the region who represent excellence.  It is part of the tapestry of the region where landscape, art and wine combine to create the special appeal of the region. At Real Collegio.

  • 20 - 21 May: Antiques Market

    On the third saturday and sunday of each month, more than 230 exhibitors from all over Italy display antique, vintage modern and collector’s items for all ages. In the old town.

  • 27 - 28 May: Artisanal Market

    At Piazza San Giusto, showing the best of local craftmanship.

     
  • Until 31th May: Puccini and his Lucca

    Permanent festival dedicated to Giacomo Puccini in his city. Concerts will take place every single day with different programs. Church of San Giovanni, 7.00 pm. Tickets on site.

  • 1-2 April: Verdemura

    Market exhibition of flowers and plants, all for gardening, on the ancient walls.

  • 15-16 April: Antiques Market

    On the third saturday and sunday of each month, more than 230 exhibitors from all over Italy display antique, vintage modern and collector’s items for all ages. In the old town.

  • 16th April: Grand Prix Terre di Canossa

    Lucca is one of the stages of VI Edition GP Terre di Canossa, from 14th to 17th April between Emilia, Liguria and Tuscany, the extraordinary trip through the thousand-year old streets of Matilde di Canossa, Queen of Italy in the XII century.

  • 22-26 April: Santa Zita

    Exhibition of the flower market to honour the Saint of Lucca: the exhibition of flowers and ornamental plants takes place in the Anfiteatro Square from 9am to 8pm, with exhibitors from all over Tuscany, Piemonte and even from the Holland. Via Fillungo, Scalpellini Square and San Frediano Square colour and cheer up, the atmosphere is full of the intense perfume of flowers, cakes and local food; always in San Frediano Square and Scalpellini Square the Opera delle Mura and the garderners of the Botanical Garden set up flower arrangements.

Events in March 2017

  • 2-31 March: Puccini and his Lucca

    International Festival with different programs every night: Puccini and Verdi on thursday, Puccini and Mozart on friday, One night at Opera on saturday. Tickets available on site. Oratorio di San Giuseppe, 7 pm.

  • 4-5 March: "Il cappello di paglia di Firenze"

    Based on Le Châpeau de paille d’Italie by Eugène Labiche and Marc Michel in 1851,  the Opera Il cappello di paglia di Firenze was composed by Nino Rota in 1945. The Rota masterpiece is a divertissement full of quotes, tipical of the musician beloved from Fellini. Teatro del Giglio, 9 pm.

  • 10-12 March: What are the clouds

    Lucca Theater Festival, 12 theathral show for children and boys. Teatro del Giglio, Teatro di San Girolamo and Palazzo Ducale.

  • 10-12 March: Macbeth, Teatro del Giglio

    Directed by Franco Branciaroli, with Franco Branciaroli and Valentina Violo, production CTB Centro Teatrale Bresciano – Teatro de Gli Incamminati. Teatro del Giglio, 9 pm and 4pm.

  • Until 12th February: Antonio Possenti, "Altrove ed altri luoghi"

    Antonio Possenti, celebrated painter from Lucca recently died, come back in his town with a selection of more than 30 paintings to compose a fascinating journey between fantastic characters and places from Ariosto opera. At Palazzo Ducale.

  • 18-19 February: Antiques Market

  • 18-19 February: ExtraLucca

    Lucca capital of olive oil for three days. Show, exhibition and tasting, books, meeting and so on. From 10 am until 7 pm. Palazzo Ducale, free entrance.

  • 24-26 February: Chocomoments

    Weekend full of taste and sweetness for chocolate addicted: a lot of exhibition, show-cooking, tasting and meeting about chocolate. From 10 am until 8 pm, Piazza Napoleone.

Events in January 2017

  • 14th January: L’Orlando furioso

    L’Orlando furioso of Vivaldi is an unpublished opera. The musicians presents a special edition created specifically for Teatro del Giglio, from manuscript Fondo Giordano 39bis of Biblioteca Nazionale Universitaria of Turin. Teatro del Giglio, ore 21,00.

  • 14-15 January: Antiques Market

    New layout of Teatro Goldoni of Livorno in coproduction with Teatro del Giglio of Lucca and Teatro of Pisa for fantastic opera of Mozart. Directed by Lindsay Kemp. Teatro del Giglio, hours 9 pm and 4.30 pm.

  • 3rd December: Final event "Familiar sayings"

    The “Conversations in San Francesco” end on Saturday 3rd December with the last appointment of the festival dedicated to the theme of the family in its various sides: the actor Sergio Castellitto and his wife, the writer Margareth Mazzantini tell their life together. At 9 pm, San Francesco Church.

  • 3rd December: Così muore Mimì

    What happens if Boheme and jazz-rock meet? The result is an opera-musical like “Così muore Mimì”, a show bordering classical and contemporary music. Teatro del Giglio, 9 pm.

  • From 3rd December: Il Desco

    The official opening of the lyrical season is entrusted as usual to Puccini’s opera production of the Teatro del Giglio, that on 25 and 27 November will stage “La Boheme” by Marco Gandini with scenes from Italo Grassi. Nicola Paszkowski will directs Orchestra and Chorus of Tuscany.

    Festival of female talent in jazz. Six concertos and a final conversation with Dee Dee Bridgewater.

  • From 1th to 31th October: Puccini and his Lucca

    The first festival dedicated to master in his city. Concerts, recitals and special events. Every evening at 19.00 at the Basilica di San Giovanni.

  • From 7th to 9th October: Vacanze romane al Teatro del Giglio

    The theatre opens the new season with a musical for sure appeal.

  • 15th and 16th October: Mercatino dell’antiquariato (antiques market).

  • From 2th September: Concerts in the Orto Botanico botanical gardens

    Concerts of various musical genres and an extensive art exhibition created in partnership with the “Arte in Lucca” Association will be on every Friday evening, starting at 9.30pm, in the cellars of the baluardo (bastion).

  • From 2th to 4th September: Murabilia

    An amazing amateur gardening market and exhibition, trough the ancient walls from Baluardo di San Regolo, Cortina, Bastione della Libertà and botanical gardens. Admission fee.

  • 10th and 11th September: Spicy Lucca

    Exhibition and market organized by Italian Chili Club at Real Collegio.

  • 13th September: Luminara di Santa Croce

    The procession of the Holy face, or Luminara di Santa Croce, every September 13 from the Basilica di San Frediano winds through the historic city – lighted by hundreds candles – up to the Cattedrale di San Martino.

  • 17th and 18th September: Mercatino dell’antiquariato (antiques market).

Events in July 2016

    Concerts of various musical genres and an extensive art exhibition created in partnership with the “Arte in Lucca” Association will be on every Friday evening from 8th July, starting at 9.30pm, for thirteen evenings, in the cellars of the baluardo (bastion).

  • From 9th to 23rd July: Lucca Summer Festival

    This year’s performers at the festival, now a very famous summer fixture in Lucca, are:
    Van Morrison and Tom Jones on 9th July, Lionel Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire on 12th, Neil Young and Promise of the Real on 16th, Simply Red with Anastacia on 20th, Negramaro on 21st and Marco Mengoni on 23rd July.

  • 11th and 12th July: Le giornate di San Paolino (festival of the city’s patron saint)

    The festival begins on 11th July, at the Piattaforma San Frediano and its cellar, with the exhibition of artillery, equipment, characters in historic military dress and spari a “Gazzarra” (resounding shots), the Gara di torte co’becchi (baking competition of the traditional local torta co’becchi, a sweet or savoury tart), the sfilata dei gruppi storici cittadini (parade of historical city groups), and the evocative Luminara di San Paolino, a historical procession with over 100 participants.
    12th July: blank firing of the Historica lucense association cannons, concert by the Woodson Choir (from Virginia, USA) in the Chiesa di San Michele church and, at 9pm, the Palio della Balestra between the city’s districts according to the rules from the year 1500 in Piazza San Martino.

  • 16th and 17th July: Mercatino dell’antiquariato (antiques market).

  • From 1st June: Cartoline pucciniane (postcards from Puccini)

    Concerts and music by Giaccomo Puccini will be held every Thursday from June to September at the Teatro del Giglio and in Piazza Cittadella.

  • From 3rd to 5th June: Anfiteatro Music Festival

    International Jazz festival, held in Piazza Anfiteatro, with two fixtures each day at 7.30pm and 10pm.

  • From 17th to 19th June: XXVIII Festival Internazionale di Scacchi Città di Lucca

    (XXVIII City of Lucca international chess festival) at Palazzo Guinigi.

  • From 18th to 19th June: Mercatino dell’antiquariato (antiques market)

    On the third Saturday and Sunday of each month, more than 230 exhibitors from all over Italy display antique, vintage modern and collectors’ items from all ages. In the old town.

  • Until 26th June: Mostra d’arte “Sguardi paralleli Ballocco/Morellet” (art exhibition entitled “Ballocco/Morellet parallel gazes”)

    This exhibition, curated by Paolo Bolpagni, includes some seventy works by François Morellet and Mario Ballocco, dating from 1945 to the ’80s, as well as works by Alberto Burri, Giuseppe Capogrossi and Ettore Colla.
